THE WILL OF ALEXANDER BADNOLL OF SHELLINGFORD, 
BERKSHIRE: 1600/01

The last will and Testamente of Alexander Badnoll of the parishe of Shellingforde in the Countye of Barcks Yeoman made the xxviij th of March 1600. Elizab; 42. In the name of God amen. I Alexander Badnoll of the parishe of Shellingforde yeoman beinge sike and weake in bodye, but ( god bee thanked) whole and perfecte in minde, doe make this my last will and Testament in manner and forme followinge.

In primis, I committ and commende my soule into the hands of Allmightye god, trustinge to bee saved by the death, passion and blood sheddinge of my Lorde and Saviour Jesus Christe

Item I committ my bodye to bee buryed in the parish Church of Shellingforde./

Item I give to the mother Church of Salisburye, iiij d /

Item I give to the poore to every Cottadge, a Bushell of Barley

Item I give to my Sonne Thomas 2 sheepe

Item I give unto my Sonne William fyve quarters of Barlye, and doe will that my excecutors dischardge vj L which hee doth owe unto Mr.Thomas Yate of Farrington at Midsommer nexte

Item I give unto my Sonne Roberte two sheepe/ and doe will that hee bee payed iij L by my Excecutors! which I doe owe him

Item I give to my Daughter Allice, twentye poundes to bee payed within one moneth after the day of her mariadge

Item I give to my daughter Margarett twenty pounds to bee payde within one moneth after the day of her mariadge/

Item I give to my daughter Joan twoo Bullocks and sixe quarters of Barly to bee payed within one moneth after the day of her mariage!

Item I give my godchildren vj d a peece,

Item I make my wife and my Sonne Alexander my excecutors, and doo give the rest of my goods unbequeathed unto my Sonne Alexander, allwaise provided that my wife may share all things hereafter for her use whilest shee doth live/

Item my will is, that yf eyther of my twoo daughters Allice and Margarett, doo dye before the day of ther manage, that then her legacye shalbee divided by equall portions between my Sonne Alexander and the other of the twoo sisters which doth servive. And that yf both my sayde daughters shall dye before theyr mariages, that then the portions of them both shall remayne to my Sonne Alexander
