THE WILL OF JOHN BADNALL, HUSBANDMAN, OF WALFORD, 
STAFFORDSHIRE  1547

In ye name of god amen the xiij daye of Maye xxxviij yere of ye rayne of our most dradde lorde Henrye viij th of England France and  Yrelande Kyng defender of ye faythe and here in erthe as next under god of ye churche of england and also of Yreland ye supreme heade I John Badnall of Walford in ye parryshe of Standon in ye countye of Stafford and within the dyocyse of coventye and lychfeld husbandman syke and dysessed in body but of hole mynde and I perfytt memorye ordayne and make my last wyll and testament in manor and forme as folowythe. Fyrst I bequethe my Sole unto almyghty god to our ladys Sant Marye and to all ye celestyall court of hevin and my body to be buryed in ye parryshe churche of Standon as where shall pleyse god.   Item I bequethe to Thomas my son prest all my lands and tenaments ye heyrelomys thereunto belongyng durynge hys lyfe naturall.   Item I bequethe to Wyllyam my son my Steddye hamers tongys with all other toylys to hys craft belongynge with ye house I dwell in (yf yt maye be optayned of the lords of ye same ) so that Alyse my wyfe injoye and ocopye half with hyn ye same house with all ye apportenance durynge her lyfe naturall and Kepynge my name all and synguler my other gayde and catell (my body honesty brought home my detts utterlye dyscharged and payed I wyll they be separate and devyded in to parts by ye over syght of executors and other indeferet neybors ye one part to my wyfe and ye other part to be equally devyded between my ij dorters Agneys and margret by evyn portyons also I wyll that Thomas my son and hys herys shall gyve or cause to be gyvyne to Agneys and margrett my dorters syther of theme xl. to there maryage so sane as hyt can be made of ye rents of lands or otherwyse indyferently so that they wyll be niled and ordered bye hym and others theyre specyall frynds at theyre maryage and otherwyse ) and that thys my last wyll and testament may be well and truly performed I ordayne and make Thomas my son and Alys my wyfe my executors and Humfrey Vyse of Standon gentylman superyser to s... wyttnese ..........
