The account is dated 15 December 1869 and the residue on which duty was payable amounted to 13102 : 10s : 4d.

DESCRIPTION   Four documents, all copies of the originals, relating to the estates of James Ridout of Leek, Staffordshire, silk manufacturer, deceased. (1) Certification, dated 13 January 1870, by Mountford Fynney of Leek, silk manufacturer, the surviving partner of James Ridout, that the business was carried on by both of them until Ridout's death on 19 August 1866. At that time there was 2813 : 17s : 2d in the hands of the firm's bankers. He also certified that on 31 December 1866 there was a balance in the partnership in favour of the representatives of Mr.James Ridout of 12896 : 16s :8d including the amount held by the bankers. After deducting his moiety of the money in the Bank the net amount in favour of the representatives of James Ridout was 11579 : 18s : 1d. (2) Copy, dated 26 July 1867, of an inventory and valuation of James Ridout's (of King Street, Leek,) clothes and household effects by R. M. Fergyson -total amount 124 : 12s : 8d. (3) Copy, dated 2 December 1869, of estimated value of James Ridout's property at Cheddleton i.e. a cottage and wheelwright's shop and garden occupied by Mrs. Fernyhough. Value 220. (4) Schedule of the debts of James Ridout, deceased. Total 99 : 8s : 7d. This gives names and trades.

DESCRIPTION Appointment, dated 15th June 1883, of a new trustee under the will of Robert Ridout late of Wath House near Pickering in Yorkshire. Ridout made his friends Edmund Fynney of Leek, silk manufacturer, and William Wrangham, wine & spirit merchant of New Malton, Yorkshire, trustees under his will. Fynney disclaimed his trusteeship by deed poll and Wrangham appointed Robert Harding Harding of of New Malton in his place.

DESCRIPTION Letter, dated 13 November 1906, from R. W. Brealey of Thomas Brealey & Son, Land Agents and Surveyors, 15 Stockwell Street, Leek, Staffordshire to J. Challinor, Compton, Leek. The letter concerns work done at Bradshaw Farms which Miss Flint had agreed to before she died. The work to be done was as follows : Mr.William Wood -tenant, "lay new water supply to yard with glazed socket pipes set in cement; for William Clews- tenant of a farm formerly Mrs. Reade, convert half present cart shed into loose box for mare and foal and to erect galvanised iron cart shed at opposite side of the yard so as to make the accommodation for carts equal to former cart shed. The total cost for this work was estimated at 40.

DESCRIPTION Abstract of Miss Robert's title to houses in Howard Street, Sheffield. The abstract commences with an indenture of lease, dated 8th December 1788, between Charles Howard, Duke of Norfolk and Elizabeth the widow of Thomas Downs, clockmaker, of Sheffield. The site in question had a frontage of 10 yards to the, then, new street and was sited on what was formerly known as "Alsop Fields". Two houses had been erected on the site which was 20 yards deep. The lease was for 99 years and a yearly rent of 19 shillings was payable. The extract lists the covenants associated with the lease. Probate of the will of John Roberts of Sheffield, silverplater, on 11th September 1807 is also cited. After bequests to his wife Mary and his son John Winter Roberts and the testator's daughter Mary, all the rest of the estate was left to his son and daughter. Part of this residual estate was used to buy the Howard Street property. Mary Roberts attained the age of 21 in or about 1811 and she acquired the Howard Street property by indentures of lease and release dated 29th and 30th September 1811. The premises were then occupied by Jonas Oddey and William Mills.

DESCRIPTION Deed of assignment, dated 26th July 1878, from Richard Jervis and John Jervis both of No. 3 Falcon Square, London, trading in partnership as Fancy Warehousemen under the title " Jervis Brothers" to their Creditors. The solicitors in the matter were Challinor & Co. and Ashurst Morris Crisp & Co. A meeting of their creditors had been held on 10th July 1878 at which a majority agreed upon a composition of 5/- in the pound in satisfaction of the debts. This was confirmed at a subsequent General Meeting held on 24th July 1878.

DESCRIPTION Chirograph of a final agreement, dated 14 April 46 Geo III ( ) between John Ryle plaintiff and Michael Daintry and his wife Margaret and Mary Ann Daintry, spinster, deforciants of two messuages, two gardens, one acre of land, common of pasture for all manner of cattle and common of turbary in Macclesfield.  Daintry admitted that the property were John Ryles as of right and which the Daintries had given Ryle as a gift. The usual form for feet of fines follows with Ryle paying 50 to the Daintrys.
