DESCRIPTION Miscellaneous items re Mr. & Mrs. W.B.Badnall's trust including 3 letters from Mr. Joseph Nodder of Marsh Green, Chesterfield to William Beaumont Badnall dated 3 April 1858, 27 August 1858 and 22 September 1858 respectively. Concerning the trust the first mentions " the time has arrived I imagine for Sir Arnold and myself to surrender our trusteeship by a final settlement and dismissal". The second states that he had been absent about one month from home having returned " all the better for our outing to Scarborough on Tuesday". Later he states that " I may probably be at Buxton in the Autumn". The third apologises for having omitted to sign a document as a result of his curate, Mr. Thrupp, calling. He also mentions that " the death of his brother seems to have curtailed Sir Arnold's stay in your neighbourhood, at least he never came as Mr. Steade had agreed to bring him over to Marsh Green from Broomhouse.

One is a letter dated 3 January 1855 from Joseph Sandar, secretary of the Midland Railway to W. B. Badnall at Leek giving particulars of dividends payable to 1st September 1854. The others consist of hand written notes and calculations relating to the dividends dated 28 February 1855 and a copy of the draft for the dividend.

DESCRIPTION Draft agreement as to flow of sewage waters John Davenport of Wetwood Hall, Leek, Staffordshire with the Commissioners under the Leek Improvement Act 1855 9 September 1858. This includes a plan. The agreement concerned the carrying of sewage in the No. 1 South Drainage District of Leek into and through lands of John Davenport. The Commissioners were to construct a sewer as shown on the plan and John Davenport was to have the use of the sewage waters from marked points for the purposes of irrigating his lands and for conveying any surplus sewage waters to the River Churnet. By using the sewage waters John Davenport was to reduce the chance of nuisance so far as he reasonably could but would not be liable for any nuisance caused.

DESCRIPTION Draft agreement between Thomas Booth of Leek, Tanner, and Edward Waller of Leek, Silk Weaver, concerning a house in Mill Street, Leek, Staffordshire dated 28 August 1863. Waller is described as the owner of "ancient cottages situate on the North East side of Mill Street, Leek and on the North West of the Pump Inn and of two ancient cottages adjoining the other on the North West side. To end disagreement it was agreed that some land was to be exclusively that of Thomas Booth subject only to a right of wheel barrow round and 3' 3" wide for the owners and occupiers of the respective properties.

DESCRIPTION Six late 18th century letters, etc. (1) to Messrs Mills & Cruso, Leek, dated 31 January 1795, from J. Hogarth of Staples Inn, London. Hogarth seems to be Mills London agent. Several cases are briefly mentioned including Doe Lessee of Bloore v Roe Stubbs Tenant; Hine v Chapman; Mills Recovery; Read v Boot; Daintry v Daintry; (2) Letter dated 13 April 1795 from John Goodwin of Ashbourne to Challinor, Leek, Staffordshire concerning copies of indorsements upon deeds held by Challinor. (3) Undated copy of an article from an agreement concerning Thomas Blore. (4) Letter dated 5 July 1796 form Kinderley & Long of Symonds Inn to Mills & Cruso, Leek, Staffordshire concerning Mr. Blore's response to a request by Mills & Cruso to see a copy of a deed. (5) Letter dated 15 July 1796 from William Townsend of Staples Inn to Mills & Cruso, Leek, Staffordshire re Stubbs and Blore. [Given to Roger Bednall, Australia 1999]. (6) Notes re Burnetts mortgage from Thomas Salt's dated about 1796 It mentions a mortgage made 25 years before from Thomas Salt's father to Thomas Gould of .? "The father of the present Gould" for 750. The premises were Womersley and several lands in Butterton. Barnetts had agreed to pay this off. It warns the reader not to let Bloor get possession since he had "a mortgage after Thackers and before Barnetts".

DESCRIPTION Two letters from Edward Powys at Wetwood to Messrs Cruso, Jones & Porter, Leek dated 11 June 1807 and 12 June 1807 respectively. Appears to refer to a conveyance. In the second letter Powys states "there is no dependence to be placed upon a word of any Lovatt". He mentions the number of promises broken and concludes "nothing now remains but to let the law take its course".

DESCRIPTION Small bundle of documents relating to the estates of Frank Cruso and Mr. & Mrs. W.B. Badnall's Trust. Inland Revenue Form re succession duty for property not chargeable by way of annuity Register C for the year 1854 Folio 206 . The account is for personal property to which Jane Elizabeth Badnall wife of William Beaumont Badnall of Leek, Staffordshire succeeded on the death of her father Francis Cruso on 24 September 1854. This property she derived from Jane Milne Smith under an indenture of settlement made between Jane Miles Smith, Francis Cruso and William Smith and Arnold James Knight on 16 February 1833. The account was delivered by John Cruso and Richard Cooper of Leek both trustees under the settlement drawn up on the marriage of Jane Elizabeth Badnall and William Beaumont Badnall. It comprises shares and mortgages to a value of 6154 : 0 : 11. Document is dated and signed, stamped and registered.

DESCRIPTION Draft transfer of mortgage, dated 10 March 1873, from Edward Valentine Pegge Burnell Esquire to E.V.Pegge Burnell, Joseph Challinor and Joseph Bright of Chesterfield . The mortgage for 3000 was secured by on a china factory and premises in Hanley, Staffordshire occupied by Thomas Ford and formed part of the trusts of Mr. & Mrs. W.Beaumont Badnall and Mrs. Smith (Beauchief) . It sites the transfer of a moiety in the property from Charles Ford to Thomas Ford of Cannon Street, Hanley dated 20 October 1867. The property was copyhold within the Manor of Newcastle under Lyme. Attached to the document is a letter dated 7 February 1873 from Thomas Ford stating that he can have no objection to the transfer. A hand written note on the front states " To be entered on the mortgage of 28 August 1867 by Messrs T & C. Ford. The last page has been endorsed by W.B.Badnall.
