The Third Generation
1868 - 1961


 The children of William and Maria Bednall were the third generation of Bednalls to live in Australia, but were the first to be native born.  Of the six children of William and Maria, two (Ellen and Ethel) died in infancy.  The four surviving children were Emily, William (WK), Edward and Gerard.

William Kendall Bednall

William Kendall Bednall was born at St Bernards near Magill on the 27th of April 1870, and was baptised at St Georges Woodforde, Magill, SA.

He married Margaret Sewell on 28 December 1901 at St Paulís Church, Hahndorf.

William, called Will by his wife, and otherwise known as WK, was a  teacher and later a headmaster at various schools in South Australia, including Semaphore, Kalangadoo and Riverton.

WK and Margaret had two sons.  Maurice William Bednall was born at Hyde Park in February 1903, and Brian Herbert Bednall was born at Semaphore in July 1904. 

WK and Margaret lived for many years at 42 Northcote Terrace Gilberton.  This house was originally owned by Margaret's family, the Sewells, and remained in family until the 1980s.  .

 WK died in August 1961, and was cremated.  His ashes were deposited at the West Terrace Cemetery, Adelaide???


Edward Blore Bednall

 Edward was born on the 5th of December 1872.

 He married Naomi Caroline Gertrude (Queen) Ferry on 13th July 1905 at St Maryís Church, South Road.  They had three children; Warren (Bill) Hazelwood Blore Bednall, born in May 1906 at Port Wakefield, SA, Colin Blore Bednall, and Shirley Bednall. 

Edward was a banker, and for many years a bank manager at Norwood.

Edward died on 22 January 1931, aged 58, and is buried in the churchyard at St Georgeís Anglican Church, Magill.


Gerard Noel Bednall 

Gerard was born born in Feb 1877, and married Susan Elizabeth Berriman on 16 November 1908 at the Methodist Church, Peterborough . 

Gerard and Susan had two daughters; Necia born in June 1910 at Victoria Terrace New Parkside, and June. 

For some time Gerard lived and worked in Melbourne. 

Gerard was a printer / editor?? As his father had been before him.


Emily Gell Warren (nee Bednall)

Emily Gell Bednall, was born at Norwood in January 1868 and baptised at St Michaelís Mitcham.  She married the Reverend John Warren in June 1895 at Christ Church, North Adelaide.

John Warren became the rector of St Davidís Burnside, and they lived in Third Street, Knightsbridge.

Emily and John had two daughters; Joyce Noel Warren born in 1896, and Mary Blore Warren born in April 1902.

WT Bednall (Emilyís father) spent the last years of his life living with them at Knightsbridge.
